Solid copper bullets vs 1:12 twist rate

From another thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=369561 I was given a link to bullet stability calculator which showed that a .308 with a 1 in 12 twist barrel will not stabilize a solid copper bullet, being longer per given weight than lead bullets, at any velocity, whereas a 1 in 10 twist barrel will.

I have been frustrated with the accuracy of every load I've tried to work up using solid copper bullets and I'm wondering if this may be the reason.

Before I invest in a replacement barrel for my Rem 700 with a 1 in 12 twist rate I wanted to know if anyone else has found this to be true.

I shoot a 168gr TTSX in my Remington 700 30-06 with a factory 1:10 barrel with excelent accuracy, but in my Marlin 44mag with 1:38 twist I couldn't stabilize a 225gr bullet and had to go with the 200gr. You may be able to get good accuracy with your 1:12 barrel by using a lighter weight bullet. I'd recommend sending an e-mail to Barnes tec support and explain your situation to them.

According to the calculator lighter bullets will respond the same as the heavier bullets, being longer for their weight than lead as well. This has also been my experience with my handloads, 150's, 165's, all a little whacky with frequent flyers.
