    Did something different today

Tried some Pure lanolin, isopropyl alcohol and detergent based case lube today on some .45ACP cases. What a difference in the operation of the XL-650 the machine has never run so smooth. I used carbide die so I have never though of lubing the cases before. Well that has all changed now.

So Chief, what does that combination do for you that a normal case lube would not?

Is the solution easier to remove? Do you run the finished rounds through a tumbler/vibrator to remove. Is removal necessary at all?

    Please explain the differences.

I really think that using Nu-Finish in the vibrator helps a lot with the sizing station, just my opinion though.

Anyone who is loading in volume is crazy not to use case lube. I know there is gonna be some people who say there is no need and that they would never do it. But if your loading volume and you wanna do it fast and smooth, try it and you won't go back.

Preferably, for pistol cases, Hornady one shot is all I use.. when I load rifle cartridges, I then switch to the lanolin based lubes since it's usually a 2 part process.. (decap/trim, tumble, then seat primer/drop powder/seat bullet). With pistol cases it's lube, doo all operations, then load into boxes for later use.

              Lanolin is pretty remarkable stuff..
I found a recipe for "Ed's Red bore cleaner" that's an excitement solvent and metal protectant all in one.. (clean and oil at the same time)

1 quart Dexron III automatic transmission fluid.

              1 quart kerosene (K1)

              1 quart acetone

1 quart aliphatic mineral spirits (or substitute with White spirits AKA: Stoddard solvent)

              1 pound lanolin (melted first)

              Makes just over 1 gallon.
Try to keep it off of plastic and rubber as it can soften both due to the Dextron and acetone..
Dextron is high in detergents and a lubricant. The K1, Acetone, and Mineral spirits, all solvents. Lanolin is a lubricant and metal protectant..
I'm sure you could cut back on the acetone and mineral/white spirits if it were more the lubricant quality you were after..

I'm sorry, but that right there, can be taken the WRONG way!

pardon my ignorance, but is this better than imperial sizing wax?

No, but they are not lubing each case by hand.

Always use one shot on my pistol brass and my 223 brass through my 650. never had a stuck case yet either. Throw several of handfulls of brass into a zip lock bag, spray, shake, spray & shake again, dump in case feeder and crank away.

does the one shot tarnish the brass if not tumbled off?

so do you have to clean the cases before you shoot them?

I believe it depends on what case lube you use. It is pretty easy either way as you just toss your rounds in the tumbler when your finished, and they come out looking great. With Hornady One Shot, I don't believe you need to clean them when your done.

I will tell you an interesting story about Hornady One Shot. First time I ever used lube on pistol cases I put a bunch of cases in a plastic 5 gallon bucket. Few sprays of One Shot and swished it around. Few more sprays and swished it around again. Reached in to see how slippery they were, and POOF. goodbye eyebrows, goodbye arm hair, goodbye nose hair, and I got a free trimming of my bangs. I know this is generally safe to do as I know people who do it like that all the time. I must have just had some static or something. Either way, I don't use One Shot anymore because it literally left a bad taste in my mouth.

This is a new product that a member of the High Road developed and I was one of the product testers. After reloading them just put the rounds in the tumbler for ten minutes.
I have been using Nu-Finish in the tumbler but switched back to Dillon's polish, since I did not like the results with Nu-Finish
