    Pet Store Tumbling Media

Alright, Well I have a couple questions for all you smart folks. I am looking for a pet store in the bay area(I am located in Concord). I need a store that I can guy large bags(40lbs or larger) of corn cob and walnut shell media for tumbling. Seems like everything I find is either to small or to large. Does anyone one know of any store or any of the names of the brand that you buy at the pet store? Also does anyone know of any home made brass polish? I have been trying one that the ingredients include(salt, flour, white vinigar, and a little lemon juice). It doesn't seem like it works to well in a tumbler(just kind of clumps together and hardens).
    Thank for any help.

If you really want bulk media, call around to stores that sell to sand blasters. I've heard they deal in larger quantities of walnut shells.

I go to the local feed store. 50# bag of walnut hull, semi fine grind is around $15.00. Go to Auto Zone/Kragens and buy a bottle of NU-Finish for around $5.00. Can't get any cheaper. Time is Money!!!!!!!!

+1 on feedstore, there's one in Walnut Creek, not sure about Concord. Yellow pages, etc.. Mine in Half Moon Bay sells 50 pound bags of both walnut and corncob a LOT cheaper than a pet store, and a bunch cheaper than buying it as 'brass polishing media'. I store the bags in 2 35 gallon plastic garbage cans. Sandblasting supply will do the same.

3M microfine polishing compound for car paint does a nice job if you want to add something to the media.

Concord Feed has walnut media but no corn cob in the right size. The last time I got some I just ordered either 14 or 21 pounds from Hi-tech ammo online. It was what I wanted and was inexpensive enough. I tried ordering 50# from a place in the mid west, but well, that would have been a huge shipping cost not to mention the size of the bag/box.

You might be able to find the corn cob at the feed store in Danville.

PetCo has walnut media in 5-10lb bags (disguised as lizard/spider habitat floor stuff).
