Speer .45 lead bullets

A friend gave me 3 boxes of Speer .45 ACP lead bullets for reloading. The bullets are not lubed but are a dark gray color instead of the usual silvery color of lead bullets. Is this a coating that subs for lube or do they require lubing before using? There is a serrated shallow groove about midships on the bullet that doesn't look deep enough to be a lube groove.

Speer lead bullets are swaged (pressed) from almost pure lead and have a gray lube coating. I've used their 38 cal bullets in the past. As long as they're not loaded too hot they won't lead your barrel.
