    Minor Issue....

    Hey fellas,

Once again I seek reloading guru knowledge... I have no sacrifice though....

I trimmed all of my 223 brass to 1.76 and got it all primed.

I dropped some powder (23.7 gr of IMR4895) and started on some bullets.

Here is the dilemma.... The max COAL for a 55gr bullet is 2.26... If I seat the 55grFMJBT hornady bullet to that depth, the cannelure doesnt line up...

    Am I doing something wrong?

This is for an AR 15, standard mags. Nothing fancy here.

    Thank you fellas!

Oh thought I might add I stuck one of my 223 cases in my Lyman resizing die. Thank god I just bought a Lee Pacesetter set.

Not using the cannelure is ok. As long as the loaded rounds fit in your magazine, should be no problems.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

Hornady recommends a seating depth of 2.200" for that bullet. I would bet the cannelure would line up nicely.

You don't need to seat the bullet out to it's maximum OAL.

Ok,Yeah they do fit ok in the mag.

Cycle ok. And at 2.20 it would line up perfectly. Maybe I was just tired.

Thanks for your quick responses guys.

And slightly different pace. I was cycling the rounds through the gun so I could ensure proper function. on a couple of the rounds i noticed very light primer marks... Wtf is up with that? Is it my bolt or firing pin or something?

M-1 Garands, M-14's (M-1A) and M-16's (AR-15) all have free floating firing pins. When you chamber a round, the firing pin slams forward and will leave a small dimple on the primer. It's normal.

As a side note, why are you trimming to 1.76"? That is the maximum acceptable length, and manuals recommend trimming to 1.75"

Maybe it is 1.75... I am using the lee case length gauge with lock stud and cutter...
