Boxer and Berdan primers diference

Hello to all,

I'm heAding to the Big 5 sale and want to get some of that $7 buck/box of MFS ammo. I don't wantto buy corrosive ammo so can you tell me the difference between Boxer and Berdan primers????

You don't say which kind of MFS ammo (caliber). Some is brass, some is steel, some is magnetic, some is non-magnetic. I think all are non-corrosive and most are boxer. You can't tell boxer vs. berdan just by looking at a loaded cartridge. You must look down a fired case. A boxer case has one flash hole in it while a berdan case has two flash holes in it and is much more difficult to reload and find primers for. If you are just blasting and want non-corrosive ammo, you are good to go with any of the MFS stuff.

Berdan primers are just a cup+priming compound. There is no anvil integrated into the primer because it is formed into the primer pocket of the Berdan brass. It's a tit in the center of the pocket with two flasholes located 180 degrees apart from each other on each side of the anvil tit. Google "Berdan primers" (or some such) and you should get all sorts of info.

Boxer or Berdan will go bang every time you pull the trigger. It really won't matter until you try to reload the brass. As far as corrosive is concerned. Corrosive ammo is generally FOREIGN MILITARY IMPORT ammo. However, not all of it is corrosive. You have to read what the box says. Corrosive ammo shoots just fine. You just have to clean the barrel with hot water with a final treatment of oil on the same day you shoot the stuff. Import 8mm Mauser ammo is almost always corrosive.
