    357 load data question

I am going to try a new load using all lead bullets with no gas check and would like thoughts on my recipe:

Bullet: Round Nose Flat Point 158 Grain w/o gas check
    Powder: Unique 6.2 Grains
    Seating 1.58" OAL

Sound like a good starting point? I want to load up 12 to try at the range early next week before I make a couple hundred. These are for punching holes in paper.

Sound like a good starting load! I'm sure our resident .357 Mag reloader Cowboy will jump in here soon, since he know about .38 spl and .357 mags.

Cool. Thanks for the info, I will wait and see if he pops in.

I am using the #16's bullet from Bulletworks which shows as Round Nose, 158 Grain.

The reason I am have a question is because of all the info I read about lead in the grooves if I go to hot. 6.2 of unique seems pretty light for a 357 but I am new to this. Again, I just make holes in paper. I do not want to mess up my GP100.

I read that going over 950fps with non plated will cause fouling and I do not want that. Is that bogus info?

Mitch and Artie Mitchell make great hard cast bullets. Still waiting for my 8K of 200 grain LSWC in .45 ACP to be delivered.

There's no magic speed that you can't go over.(In a .357 revolver at least) It all depends on the hardness of the lead. If you're shooting hard cast in the 18-21 brinell range, you can go up to magnum velocities without leading assuming that the bullet is properly sized to the barrel. That's why I like Missouri bullets as they tell you the hardness of the bullet on their website so you can match your velocities accordingly. Have fun.
