I've been loading .40 for my g23 gen 3 for a little over a year, no problems so far. Just follow the manual's advice for building up a load and make sure you follow the proper steps and you'll be fine.http://www.treas.gov/education/histo...-present.shtml

What's up Bruce!
My brother-in-law shoots the Gen 3 G22. He reloads using Montana Gold Bullets and Bullseye/HP38/W231 powder with NO issues. Just follow the manual(s) loading recommendation on your charges, etc.sigpicComment

Reloading is a great idea, and so is buying online. If you did, you would run out of money before the vendors ran out of .40. I don't let the gunstores and Walmart store my inventory anymore, I keep it at home.*REMOVE THIS PART BEFORE POSTING*Comment

After reading about the same potential (non-)issues, I've found reloading .40S&W isn't a big deal where it's actually quicker and less tedious than .223 or .308. I don't feel particularly safe using AA#5 as the powder because it doesn't fill up the case much at all and I could get in a bad situation with a double charge. However I don't have any suggestions for a better powder that way.
BTW: if you can hold off on the press until you get a C&R, you'd save quite a bit.Comment

The 650 is an excellent loader. All the safety problems you hear about loading .40s for a Glock is that because the .40S&W is a high pressure round and the Glock chamber doesnt fully support the cartridge at the rear were the feed ramp is at. This can cause the case to bulge and in rare cases allow the brass to blow out and explode. I reload .40 for my Glock on a 550 and knowing about this, I down load my ammo and try to get no more out of 5 reloads from my brass then I just let them fly. I would not recommend the dillon 650 for your first press. I own one and it rocks, but you need to learn the basics first. I would recommend a less expensive lee turret press to begin. I started with the turret. It is faster than a singe stage but much easier to learn on than an auto indexing progressive machine. Plus I still use the lee as a single stage with the Redding G-rx die to resize all my .40 brass.Comment

Put one empty case at a time in the casefeeder drop tube. You can learn all the steps this way.I would not recommend the dillon 650 for your first press. License costs $30 and is good for 3 years. You get dealer pricing at many vendors. Plus you can have C&R rifles shipped to your door
