    Sizing Die Alignment Help

I'm just getting into reloading with a Lock N Load AP and a set of Redding dies. I am reloading 9mm luger. The dies are just the steel set of 3 with a full length sizer, expander, and seat/taper crimp. I am having a problem with the sizing die lining up with the shell. Almost every time I have to help the shell line up or else it just hits the edge of the die and locks up the press. It looks like the radius on the opening of the die is rather small. Maybe better for a single stage rather than progressive? Is there a simple fix for this or did I just get the wrong dies? Any help will be appreciated.

On the bottom end of the Lock and Load AP there are two beveled spring loaded fingers. They are adjustable and they control the timing and alignment. I think the one on the right is the one to adjust. This is the one I had to adjust on mine.

Which Redding Dies ? They are the carbide type..right ? Can you show us an example. And don't fuss with your LNL "pawls" just yet.

These are not the carbide dies. Upon closer inspection it seems that it is not the dies fault but rather the shell is not sitting straight in the shell plate. It looks like the spring that holds the shell in to the shell plate is causing the shell to be cocked a little. Hopefully you can kind of see what i mean in the pictures.

Like someone has mentioned, you need to adjust the two paws on the bottom of the press. Look from under and you should be able to see them. They are probably out of timing. Watch the DVD that came with the kit. It shows you how to adjust them if you need.

Actually, looking at your pictures, it doesn't seem to be out of timing. It looks like the brass isn't seating all the way into the holder. have you tried to push it all the way into the holder? Make sure you have the correct shellholder plate size.

Double check that t shell holder is properly on the locating tab, (key and slot in he shell holder) and that the shell holder is bolted down properly with nothing trapped underneath it.

Ok, While loading up a bunch of 44 mag yesterday, I gave a close look under the hood so to say. I did notice that my brass as well canted away from the shell holder as it rotated into position under the sizing die. As the ram moved up this outward cant did not change, upon touching the edge of sizing die it was not centered under the opening of the die (RCBS Carbide). However upon touching the sizing die it was swept into proper position and entered the die just fine. I there is a bit of roundness a roll sort of at the opening of the die that possibly your Redding dies do not have. I then changed over to load 45 acp and the die entry was the same. You might ty another die and see if the problem continues.
