    Seating Die question...

I have a Dillon 550B with .223 carbide die set. I am finding that the bullet seating die keeps seating bullets +/- .003 off of the COL I am setting my initial setup/test round to. I am finding this with HPBT bullets. Could it just be that the HP is not always trimmed exactly the same. Should I be looking at getting different dies? Any ideas or am I just fretting over nothing. Thanks.

Dillon dies seat from the tip instead of the ogive so yes the bullets could be different lengths. But what difference is .003 going to make?

I am using SMKs. I have been finding some very small variances in length and weight. But then again were talking about +/- .003 or 69.0-69.2 grains of bullet weight. Ok. I guess I'm fretting over nothing.

...hell I dont even think my calipers read down to .003

I thin life will be ok with that little variation.

I bet the smk's are consistent from ogive to base.

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
