Is the rcbs chargemaster really worth it?

If your looking at getting into precision reloading... and I mean REAL precision with match bullets, seating and brass and not just FMJ's and blaster ammo and you have a single stage I would say go for it. I've head nothing but good reviews.


If you have a single stage and have no interest in getting into precision stuff but want to load lots of blaster ammo, then take the $300 and invest it into a good LNL or Dillon 550b. It comes with a powder measure which meters pretty damn well for ball and flake from what I have seen. On my 650 Varget got bunched up pretty easily so beware stick powder. But for blaster ammo you should probably just be using ball powder anyway for rifle.

Well, come on, you don't NEED one for precision shooting. For that you need only a good scale and maybe a powder trickler. Even without a trickler, a tapping a teaspoon works.

I think maybe for loading A LOT of precision bullets reasonably quickly, you'd need it.

But certainly you don't NEED it.

I use a much more precise Denver Instruments electronic balance but, I've used a Chargemaster Combo and will probably end up buying one someday just so I don't have to throw my powder from a bowl, using a spoon.

I think when it comes to reloading equipment, it's all a matter of time vs money. You can do anything cheaper, but it costs you more time. You can do things a bit faster, but it costs you more money.

In the end, you can earn more money, but you can't get your time back. If you ENJOY the time you spend reloading, then it's by no means wasted time. If you are doing it to save a buck, it might not be worth it.
