    Cabelas Lee kit

With the 30.00 off rebate coupon I thought it would be a good time to get into reloading. So far I bought this kit and these dies. Can anyone tell me what else Ill need to get going? Thanks guys. Cant wait to try this.

First you're going to need a manual(more than one is better). lyman makes a good one. Read it. not just the recipes either.

you'll also need a set of calipers. a lee case length gauge in your caliber of choice to go with the cutter and lock stud. A bullet puller is a must. the kinetic ones work pretty well. I think the one I have is an RCBS but there are others.

What caliber are you going to start with?

Thanks for the info. Because Im just starting I plan to send the brass out for cleaning ect.
Im going to keep it simple first and start with .223 then later down the line go to .308.

Nice! What caliber are you loading?

Get some "loading trays" these are basically just trays with holes for various calibers. Get at least two. So you put all your cases in one block, then as you process the case on each stage, take it from the "to be processed tray", process it, then move it to the "finished processing tray". Then when you move to the next stage, do the same thing. This way you can keep track of which case you've worked on and keeps them nice and upright.

Consider a powder trickler to "top off" charges if need be. Not a necessity. Should be cheap, but you can use a teaspoon as well and just tap it to top up a load if it's shy of the weight.

        Safety glasses, of course!

A tumbler is nice too. I went for a long time without one, and you can really just use a bucket of soapy water to clean brass, but a tumbler is a nice-to have!

I mean, if you are pushing towards the $150 threshold to get the $30 off. Since the Lee kit is already $20 off, getting the tumbler would be "free" (kind of)

Or, pick up more dies. Are the dies you are choosing carbide dies?

Ok sounds great! Im thinking about placing a second order so I can get another 30.00 off, lol.
I might have the wrong idea so correct me if Im wrong. I was thinking it would be nice to have a digital scale and dispenser. Something like this

With the 50.00 and 30.00 off it seems to be a good choice. Feedback?

Sending out brass for cleaning sounds expensive with postage and all. Your per round cost is going to jump a lot. Lead waster makes a good point. i'm with lead waster on cleaning your brass with just soapy water. used to use simple green, before I got my tumbler. They won't look like mirrors, but they'll be clean.

Another cheapskate alternative to loading trays(which I still use), are the plastic trays from boxed pistol ammo. they're free and work pretty damn well.

*edit* the digital scale and dispenser sounds nice, but your powder measure should be very acurate and repeatable. Also you can buy lots of bullets for $330

This is true, I need to think about this one. I shoot about 500/600 rounds a week right now. Thats why I want to learn this. Money for the reloading gear isnt the problem. I just want a basic kit so I can learn on it then move up so I can crank out more rounds.

OK, since you are shooting some volume, I'd like to suggest getting the Lee Turret set

                    or

(I think the "classic" is the preferred one).

This basically will allow you to put all the dies into the turret and finish one round at a time. (Put case in , pull lever 4 times, get one loaded round) versus the single stage press (Batch process 50-100 cases at a time before changing dies for the next stage). Although you still have to pull the lever once per case per stage, you don't have to remove/handle each case quite so many times with the turret. Plus you get completed rounds one at a time instead of in batches.

At 500-600 rounds/week, pulling the handle on a single stage will get old real quick.

I'd skip the digial auto-measuring thing. It's $330. For that price get the Hornady Lock n Load progressive (or Dillon 550b, though Cabelas doesn't sell Dillon).

I believe you won't outgrow the LnL, but you'll outgrow single stage in a few weeks with your shooting volume.

2000 to 2400 rounds per month and buying factory ammo! Just get it over with and buy a Dillon. I shoot a bit more per month than you do and get all my reloading done in three to four hours. I reload to shoot not reload to shoot.
