I've got an RCBS. Throws per minute depends on the amount of powder I'm using. Forty-seven grains takes about six seconds, I'd estimate since I've never timed it.

+1 If you are working up loads it is fantastic. No more adjust every 5 cases or so, just punch in the numbers and go!

Great! That close to my 308 load. That's more than fast enough for a Rockchucker!

Ok so you got me curious. My RCBS Chargemaster throws 44 grains of IMR4064 in about about 20 seconds per. It's a pretty good pace. Of course lighter loads less time.

RCBS Chargemaster is a "must have" for load development or single stage precision stuff......I like the auto throw setting. Set the tray back on the scale and it auto dumps a charge when it stablizes.

Yeah my old RCBS powder thrower is way too innaccurate, + I still had to trickle in the balance of the load. I will use it for my Savages pictured in my avatar. Last batch of 60 rounds of 308 took me 4 hours on the rockchucker.

bought a lyman 1200 but i haven't tried it out yet. all work and no reloading makes knucklehead a dull boy i'll try to get in there this weekend just to try it out at the very least. the lyman, by the way, also does the auto throw thing if you turn it on. i think the others are catching on. hornady and smartreloader also make similar units, as well as the PACT. you'll hear this and that, but i imagine they're all about the same, just a matter of personal preference. i started with a lee press and dies, but most everything else i have is lyman. mostly because i loved their tumbler i just started buying other stuff they made.

True for me... I'd estimate it takes about 15 seconds to throw a 20+ grain charge for my .223 rounds. The first 15 grains only take about 5 seconds; it's that last trickling part that takes all the time.

There are some modifications you can do to the RCBS Chargemaster 1500 to speed up charging and reduce over-charging.

Previous posters are correct that the most time-consuming part of the charging sequence is the final slow-trickle phase. There are parameters that you can change to reduce the time delay in the trickle-stabilize-weigh-trickle-stabilize-weigh... cycle. Depending on the type of powder you are dispensing, you can get the Chargemaster to downshift MUCH later to the slower trickle phases, such that you are MUCH closer to the target charge weight so you will need to slow-trickle LESS powder to reach the target weight.

This however, increases the frequency of over-shooting the target charge weight, so you need to do something else to compensate.

There are some modifications to the trickle tube that will increase precision (i.e. reduce instances of over-trickle). One is to line the spout by inserting a 1" section of McDonald's straw into the spout. I used a 3/4" section of aluminum tube that I bought at OSH. The reduction in spout diameter reduces over-charging greatly, but also slightly limits the maximum output during the high-speed trickle phase.

If you do the McDonald's Straw or Aluminum Tube modification, you can reprogram the Chargemaster to downshift very late, and the trickle delay very short and it still won't over-shoot the target charge.

I timed the charging sequence with a stopwatch, starting with setting the pan on the platform, until the display shows "CT - XXX" and it takes about 15-20 seconds to throw a 25-grain charge of ball powder, and 2-3 seconds less to throw the same weight of extruded powder.

It only takes about 5 seconds more to throw 45 grains of the same type of powder (the fast-trickle phase goes on for a little longer, and the slower trickle phases take the same amount of time).

I'm not sure what kind of changes they made to the new chargemasters but they must have done something because i can throw varget almost perfect to the dot everytime.
