which to get I'm torn RN or SWC

So I'm getting ready to order some Berry's bulk bullets .45 but I can decide which to buy. Should I get the plated SWC to make nice and pretty holes on my targets? Or should I get the RN which just make my rounds look pretty? For HD and camping I only use factory loads.

Forgot to mention these are going to be used for plinking and range shooting. I will be shooting a S&W4506 and a future basic GI 1911.

my 19111 eats SWC no problem and they are less $$$ than the RN (most of the time) so that's what I shot most of the time.

I would say if your guns will feed SWC then that is what I would go with. YMMV

Non ramped barrels have a hard time chambering SWC's. I had to play with the seating depth to get my gold cup to eat them reliably. Granted these were lead bullets sometimes they would just slam into the top of the chamber and get stuck. I went back to RN bullets for matches just in case. But just for plinking you dont need the bigger holes SWC's provide so stick to RN, IMO.

RN bullets usually work better in cases where there is any difference. I'd rather have a more reliable bullet than pretty holes in paper. But if you're sure it doesn't make any difference in all your guns (or in any gun you will *ever possibly* use), save a couple of bucks and get the SWC's.

+1. 200 gr SWC's make clean holes and in my .45's are pretty darn accurate.

But if you are not sure then buy the RN as they will work no matter what.

I prefer Lead SWC for punching holes in paper. It makes a cleaner, and what seems to be bigger holes (the black rings) in IDPA targets. It has helped me to get the better score on multiple occasions. I also like the wider meplat for shooting at bowling pins. Round nose is better if I want to store a bunch of rounds in the Military Ammo cans.

Rob call Berrys and see if you can obtain sample bullets from them to try out in you 45 pistols. From my friend's .45 (1911) SWC has a tendy to hang up till he had the chamber throated.

I loved getting a bunch of lead SWC bullets for my 1911. It was a nice clean hole for scoring purposes, but it was a bear to get the OAL just right so it would feed properly.

swc's will feed in most things, but if the RN's are close in price, i'd get them for better feeding/reliability. feed ramp on my ruger gets really dirty, haven't had any feed problems, but i can see the difference in how long it takes to clean off all the crap on there.

I use both. My .45ACP wheelgun gets the plated SWC exclusively. 4.2gr of Green Dot & Berry's 200gr SWC...

Right now my new RIA 1911 is getting fed the plated RN and moly coated LRN boolits for break in. Hopefully I'll be able to get it to eat the SWC eventually.

Looks? I think the SWC look badazz...
