8MM AMMO SAME AS 8MM MAUSER?

Just bought an 8mm Spanish Mauser (K98) copy that fires 8 mm Mauser ammo. I see both "8mm Mauser" and just "8mm" ammo listed on gunbroker.
I understand that "8mm mauser" is actually 7.92 x 57; but otherwise, are 8mm mauser and just 8mm the same? I realize that mausers have been re-bored, manufactured, etc in various calibers. This is an 8mm model, for sure. As I am trying to avoid alot of the East European milsurp stuff, I have seen 8mm from Remington, etc.. Just wondering if it was the same. Thanks for any input. Sort of a dummy on these things.

it's the same, but I think Mausers do fire 2 different calibers

"Mausers" have been chambered in many, many, MANY different cartidges over the years. Of course, there are many different makes and models of "Mausers" too.

8x57mmJ has a .318 bore used in older mausers and the later models were 8x57JS which used a larger .323 bore.........don't fire .323 bullets in an older .318 rifle it wont be pretty! You can slug the bore to be sure what diameter it is

I did not think any M98 mausers were chambered for the 8x57j - .318 bore

later 8mms are all .323 so i wouldn't sweat the .318 thing. only other 8mms are very obscure so likely if something is listed as just "8mm" it's likely 8x57JS mauser. get it when you can. i've got a Persian mauser rechambered to 8mm-06. it's a bad mofo but i'm very lucky it came with a lot of brass/ammo. can't just go out and buy that stuff. enjoy that mauser!
