having a slight coyote problem at my boss's house in the hills. trying to be covert/quiet about this thing because there are neighbors but we have a problem coyote that won't leave well enough alone and we need to deal with it. i have several large-rifle caliber weapons, as well as a 38/357 pistol and a .45, but i'm thinking i can reload something quieter to dispatch this little bastard as it'll be at pretty close range. i have the following caliber rifles: 7.65x53, 6.5x55, 6.5x52, 6.5x50, 8mm-06, 7.7x58, 7.5x55, 7.5x54, 8x56r, 7.62x54r, .303brit. have bullets of various weights for each of these but likely be loading with Hodgdon BL(C)-2 powder. any ideas? keep forgetting i now have a .22. maybe better with a home-made silencer on it? it's not a big one, maybe 50 lbs. ran past me this morning, getting pretty brazen. i'da stabbed him if he wasn't so fast, but i hadn't had any coffee yet. maybe i'll clip him with my car one morning and solve the whole problem.

.22 with subsonic ammo. One shot in the lungs/heart. And if possible, keep the muzzle inside the house as much as possible. Ask me how I know.

This is what I use to dispatch coyotes after we snare them, except I put it literally to their head since they're caught. We literally have over a dozen of them in the flood plain fields behind our property. Snaring is also super quiet, so if there aren't any pets that might get caught, set up some snares. It's easy to find their trails through brush and tall grass.I fly everywhere backwards.

Shot placement is important. Although, if you hit a coyote with a .22 traveling at 900FPS, it's definitely not as instantaneously lethal as a 22-250 traveling at 4000 FPS with a varmint grenade. But, if they're threatening to/attacking your children, pets, livestock, etc., do what you gotta do. When I was a little kid a 'yote came sneaking right up out of the trees to me and my sandbox with my mom sitting about 15 feet away. NOT COOL, take 'em down.I fly everywhere backwards.

we killed most of them with my 22-250 but the loads are hot and heavy so very loud, within 50 yards the 10/22 did a fine job. one shot one kill if place properly. and not too loud. just make sure your in a position to put the second one in the back of the head fast and case the gun. better to be standing there looking like who did that? than running thru the nieborhood trying to finish what you started. got a real funny story i'll go post now about turkey hunting and having to save my brother from a coyote.
