    Reloading 9mm?

How cheap are you guys reloading your 9mm for? I was reloading .223 and getting around 17 cpr, but buying factory .223 is fairly expensive, on the other hand factory 9mm can be had for 17 cpr shipped (wolf). Im thinking about getting into 9mm and wondering if its worth reloading or not. The best I came up with is 80 per k bullets, 35 per k brass, 20 per k primers, and a few cents for powder, so average 15 cpr. Is this about as good as it gets? What are your thoughts on loading 9mm?

You can get a bit cheaper than $80 per k bullets (plated). as for brass, reload your old brass or pick some up from the range floor.

I went to the indoor range yesterday, there was a crapload of 9mm brass on the floor even after it had been swept. I mean, it was under the partitions and everywhere. Also, there is the brass from your own rounds.

I actually like reloading, even if it's a break even process. I just like making stuff.

If you want to be even cheaper, cast your own bullets I guess, once the initial equipment cost is paid off, I guess it's very close to free (minus electricity or fuel and of course .. YOUR TIME, which is the biggest factor here)

About $9.90 per hundred. (4.3gr of HP-38, and 124 Gr Montana gold bullets)

You cant count the price of brass and its tough to save money reloading 9mm. Dont forget people reload to tailor their load not just to save money.

since i cast my own i only pay for the stove fuel primers and powder

if i had to buy bullets i probably wouln't reload 9mm and i wouldnt cast unless i found my super secret lead source

i reload purely for the economic value

It depends how much you shoot. It's pretty hard to beat Walmat FED 115 grain ammo

Bullets: Montana gold 124 gr JHP 3750 pieces 300 shipped
            Brass free
            Primers: CCI 500 27.00 per 1K
            Powder: VV N320 more expensive. you can use: W 231 4lbs: 64.00

I reload 9mm for about 10 cents ea. Montana Gold 115gr fmj are $290/4000 (prepaid shipping), Primers can be had for under $20/1000 at Wideners (of course hazmat charges apply, I order 20k of primers at a time) or buy them at a gun show(no shipping/hazmat fees), Powder cost is about 2 cents even if you calculate shipping in, brass is essentially free if you keep your old brass. And as Lead Waster pointed out, it's fun for most people.

if you don't have a glock and keep them under 1100 fps lead works great, I have found (don't have it right now) 500 for ~$26 to my door.

It's been a while since I've done the math. You aren't going to save a ton of money reloading 9mm(it is definitely cheaper, but not by much). The big savings is in the larger calibers. You can load .40 for quite a bit less than factory ammo. Reloading .45 is where you save big bucks.

on bullets, precision delta sells FMJ 115gr for $70, and 124 gr for $74 (per 1000).

At the last gun show I picked up 1000 x 115gr plated for I think $69

My "seed stock" was 10 boxes of Walmart 9mm (115 Federal) just about a week before they raised prices from $9.49/50 to $10.49/50. The price increase just makes me want to reload instead of buying.

But like I said, while at the range, when my buddies shot, I scrambled around like a range rat gathering up 9mm brass. Picked up some stupid .40 cal too, which you have to remove before tumbling or else 9mm brass gets stuck in them.

And I agree with neal0124, .45 is a big saver, since it goes for around $20/50.

You can Load 9mm for less than that. Precision delta 115gr fmj are $70 per k including shipping. If you had a big enough group buy, you could get plated for $10 less. Once you have brass, every batch after that the brass has no charge as you can load 9mm brass almost forever if you are not loading too hot. You can save plenty of money, and loading 9mm is considerably less work than loading .223 as you have been doing, as there are fewer steps.
