One box a month that is not in the bill. Store policy I don't think so.

Simple, they get an extra $2 per box.

This is Walmart, ammo sales aren't even a blip on their radar. If they sell out of product X every week, why not bump up the price on it until they find the balancing point?

Also the other half of this "Ammo and Reloading" forum is ... reloading!
I buy the ammo to get the cases

Walmart employee trying to be the boss
Store in Brea has a decent supply of ammo in all calibers.
Only problem I see is the prices did climb a bit.
I was just there and asked about the box limit sign being gone.
"You can buy as much as you want" he says. Sign & policy was removed.
            So go figure?

I'm not an economics or business major, but common sense seems to indicate that if you are a retailer, you are in the business of selling stuff to people, the more, the better and the more you can get for it, the better. So yeah, raising the prices on a product makes sense. Selling as much of it as possible would seem to make sense too. So ... one box per household? That's like Starbucks telling customers only one coffee per week!

I tried to tell him otherwise to no avail. But then I started wondering if maybe I was wrong.
                Big question:

Is this a policy statement or their interpretation of the law?

If it's policy, I wonder why Walmart wants to limit their revenue? Sounds contrary to commonly understood business practices in retail (higher revenue is good).

If it's their interpretation of the law, doesn't surprise me. Fudtards seem to be the norm these days instead of the exception.

I was pretty stoked when I got there because they had a LOT of stuff in stock, but ended-up leaving with just a box of .22

Since they've already had a self-induced 6 box per customer limit, why wouldn't they? Especially if they're going to be scanning DLs and will now be required to keep track. They'll still sell plenty of ammo, guaranteed.

it's a policy statement designed to convince people to keep coming into the store. If ammo sells out at 8AM every time there's a shipment, then regular people won't walk in to buy a box of WWB, and some cheetos, and a 12-pack, and a snickers, and OOoh is that an 88 cent melon-baller?

Low revenue items are there in order to draw people in, kinda like a "loss leader", they take a loss on the item in order to lead people into the store.

That's also why they put " 1 per household" signs up on the Nintendo Wii display case for a long time. If they sold out of the item that is drawing people in, then they wouldn't come in, and buy all the accessories that go with it.

It's a tactical move that leaves larger scale buyers feeling sad/angry, which allows more casual purchasers to come walkin through.

The guy kept telling me to look it up, look it up. It's there, really it is. And as many times as I said 'but, but, but...' He would keep saying look it up.
                        So I don't think it's a policy thing. I think it's the staff misunderstanding.
But then again, he told me exactly how the system would work and how you won't be able to buy ammo after 9pm anymore, because the ammo terminal closes at 9, etc., etc.

[QUOTE=Matt3989;5151700]The guy at my walmart said that too he also told me if you have more than 1000 rounds at a time they can confiscate all your guns.

Man that guy at Wal-Mart is a complete moron. Take my guns away because I have more than 1000 rounds. Well I guess they better come get my guns then. I have over 11,000 rounds at home. What's this idiots name, or what does he look like. I think its time to take a ride up to Oceanside. I have to meet this fellow. Might hit Iron Sights since I am there.

Haha, I don't think that was at the Oceanside store. Matt3989 is in Chico. The guys at the Oceanside store I go to are completely cool. They are knowledgeable, but don't seem to have a complete understanding of this law.

the root of all this is simply: "The schmuck at Walmart told me".... not exactly dealing with a frickin' brain surgeon here are we? the ammo sales guy is no more than any other dolt that works at walmart, except he's the one with the keys to the ammo case. almost fell over laughing when i bought 2 mega packs of .45 and they asked me if it was for a pistol or rifle. why? i asked. i dunno, we're supposed to ask, she says. shotgun, i say. she looks puzzled and punches a button and my receipt prints out. if you can't have fun with these people then what's point of life?

Should've said "Muzzle Loader". Most employees at a CA walmart wouldn't even get what it is.

(also, they ask because the computer prompts them for a controlled item. Handgun ammo is 21 up and long gun ammo is 18 up.)
