Trimming pre-primed rifle cases

I recently purchased some pre-primed Hornady Leverevolution cases and FTX bullets for my Marlin 1895GS 45/70. After the fact, I found out that to make these components cycle properly in that rifle, the cases need to be trimmed before use.

The trimmer I have has a pin which centers itself in the primer hole. So my question is- Is there a reasonable way to trim case length without removing the primer?

I think you answered your own question, now you could try to remove the pin and see if you could trim without it. Depending on how many cases you have you might be better off using a different trimmer or removing the primers for now.

I trim on a drill press.

Just pop the primers out, trim, and re-use the primers.

You have to remove the primer since the pin centers the brass.

The pin not only centers the brass but it sets the length as it hits the shell holder plate and limits the cutter travel. Or you could use what is known as a file trim die. It screws in to a press like any other loading die then you run the brass up in to it then use a file to trim it off. I have a few but not that caliber.
