Black Tallon ammunition

Is black tallon 'cop killer' ammunition legal to posess in CA? I did a search and couldn't find anything on it.

I see it for sale at the gunshows all the time, but I wanted to run it bast some other opinions.

and yes I know other ammo works better... I just like the idea of filling a few of my G18 mags with the most evil ammo imaginable. fur duck huntin.

Yes legal

Been superceded by the SXT and Ranger T.
Most keep Talon as collectors ammo. Stuff goes for about 40.00 for a 20 round box.

Yes, they are Legal. Winchester voluntarily pulled it from retail sale and sold it only to LEOs for a few more years, until it was redesigned and renamed.

There were NO laws making it illegal to own or shoot in California, as it was pulled from the public retail market before the law makers had a chance to make it illegal.

Winchester Ranger SXT hollow points are basically what they evolved into, without the black coating and the 'evil' name brand. "SXT" is rumored to mean Same eXact Thing... as in same as BT without the black coating & the Black Talon brand name.

You can still find some Black Talons on the auction boards and at the gun shows. But, it just as best to buy the Ranger SXTs, as they're had years of development/improvements of the years over the BT.

ouch thats expensive, I have four boxes of them in 9mm that I guess I can dig out of the safe keeping spot they were stashed in....

I hate it when you plan on using something and find out its worth too much to shoot......

Sometimes ammunitontogo.com carries the old Black Talon ammo for around $50 a box. Winchester still has a policy of selling the new and improved Ranger ammo to only LEO agencies, although you can legally own it if you find a vendor who sells to the public. Ammunitontogo.com carries 50 round boxes of the new Ranger ammo too. BTW, there is a difference between the Ranger LEO ammo and the civlian Winchester Supreme SXT line. Thanks for the info AJD... that explained alot of the rumors I'd heard about the stuff.

I guess the newer more improved stuff is the RA9SXT but we can't buy it

now I need to keep my eyes open for that stuff at the next gun show...

There was a large ammo dealer that was selling the LEO marked 50 round boxes of this stuff at one of the Las Vegas gun shows. He had a pallet full of the stuff on the floor and was selling the stuff at some very reasonable prices.

There are TONS of online dealers that sell the Ranger ammo. I have 6 or so boxes of .357sig. It runs pretty well.

All the online dealers I've looked up are out of stock of the 147grn Ranger ammo...

Does anyone know if Ammoman carries it?
