    Reloading bench

Somebody in the Off Topic section inquired about the suitability of this bench for reloading:

    It costs $129.99

On the Harbor Freight site they also have this one on sale for just $10 more.
It looks like a much better deal:

10.00 more in price, but did you notice it has an 89.00 surcharge for shipping?

the smaller one doesnt have the extra shipping charge attached.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

Just note that the first bench may have problems mounting a LEE press to it or similar single stage presses because there is not enough clearance from the table top to the drawers.

If you can see the bench in person take a look at the construction of the top. It LOOKS like the tops is like 3 inches thick, but when you examine it, it might be that the top is only 3/4" or 1" thick and the EDGES have a 3" skirt.

Though either way, you can still mount a press to it. Just don't think you are getting a super thick top (this is more important to actual woodworkers).

I used to mount my Dillon 550b to a piece of plywood, then clamp that to my kitchen counter when I lived in an apartment. So pretty much anything will do. You can even use a B&D Workmate.

I'm actually making mine out of this bench from Lowes:
                workbench

...as long as you're handy. I replaced the top with 1 1/4" thick laminate pine and bolted the top to the body. I also made side and back panels to enclose the bottom. It is coming out great though. It has a back pegboard, lot's of storage, and even an integrated power strip on the side.

                  Cool!

I have two benches, one is a woodworking bench, and another is a general purpose workbench (built both from plans). My reloading stuff will find a new home on a "bench" I made a while ago which is actually a stand I made to hold recycling bins. Since our garbage company changed and they provided a rolling bin that takes ALL recycling (hurray! No more sorting!) I decided to reuse the stand as a dedicated reloading bench, since previously I had my reloading stuff mounted to plywood that could be clamped down to different benches/tables.

A dedicated bench is a great!

For anyone on a budget or who is particularly chea... um, frugal, look for a sturdy desk on Craigslist. They can usually be found in my area for FREE.

They offer lot's of space to work and built in drawers for holding caliber conversions, tools and components.

I added casters (from Harbor Freight, thank you) to the legs of mine since it was damn heavy and I wanted to be able to move it around in my garage as needed (though I have not needed to in the last couple years).

Anyway, just another idea for someone looking to get a bench on a budget.
