    Berry's Bullets-seating depth/overall length

So I bought one of the Berry's boxes of 9mm bullets. 124gn, JHP's. The book I have says the COL should be 1.216, but when I seat the bullet to that depth, it's only in the casing about 5/16", and is sticking WAY out. When does it become unsafe as far as seating the bullet deeper? I'm shooting these in an M&P full size.

These are jacketed and not copper plated right?
    What powder are you using?
Depending on the powder my load data from lee's 2nd edition lists max oal at 1.169 and min oal between 1.09 - 1.142.

Recheck your load data. 1.216 seems to long.
Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel , "Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land."

Nearly 75 years ago (when Welfare was introduced) the democrat party said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land."

Now obama and the dems have stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels,
    and mortgaged the Promised Land!

According to Berrys webpage they only make plated bullets. Hodgdon says 1.090" Where did you get 1.2" from? Does 1.2" even fit in the mag?

Maybe I'm getting dyslexic. They are plated bullets, and the powder I'm using is Hodgdon Universal. I'll recheck the manual at home. Either way, thanks for all the info gents

Because there is no cannelure, you can seat them to any OAL that feeds well, then you have to develop the load starting at-or-near minimum powder charge and working up. 1.216" is over the maximum allowed for 9x19; I think the max is 1.169" and I never load them that long even with heavy bullets. Are you sure that book didn't say "1.126"?

For Universal min oal is 1.09. max oal is 1.169
How much powder are you using? I wouldn't start with more that about 4.0 grains

                  IMHO:

As mentioned above, Your OAL is off/long.
Seat them to MAX 1.15-1.16" OAL.

Most seat to 1.10-1.15 OAL for 9x19/9mm

                  I load my 9mm to 124grn RN 1.145" OAL

Well, it's my fault for just going by the "handout" that comes with the die set. I'm wondering whether or not I should even use this set, as it's several decades old. It does say 1.216. In the past were bullets made longer? I bought a lyman manual and looked at hodgdon's website for extra info and they are in the 1.1-1.17 range. I seated a dummy round to the 1.216 and it wouldn't even chamber. I reckon I'll check two or three sources for info from now on.
