i've got 55 grain 223 ammo that has a cannelure in it. i heard that crimping it will generally increase accuracy. will a roll or taper crimp on this matter? thanks a lot.

.223 cannelure

It depends on your seating depth. If you seat it to the cannelure, then yeah... you can crimp it. (A taper crimp I think)
But if you will be seating to a specific measurement (matching to the rifle chamber/lands) then it's not nec.
I load for the AR platform (to mag size) and don't crimp.Eat what you kill... unless it's a zombie.

You should use a taper crimp if you want to crimp 223. Your die will put a taper crimp on it. Roll crimps are mostly used for revolver rounds.
I doubt that a crimp will make accuracy better. IMO it will make it worse. The reason you taper crimp is either to remove the flare or create tension to prevent bullet setback.
Hope this helps.Chris

black hills 68gr match white box shoots the best out of my gun and is crimped with cannelure. I dont think however that this increases accuracy. I am pretty sure everyone who loads match ammo is using non cannelure(including me).Comment

I would crimp it a moderate amount if it is blasting ammo. Most match ammo won't need a crimp unless you are taking it into the ****Comment
