Hey guys, i just shot my first cast 7.62x39 loads. I will admit, I was scared at first
, but I was really happy with the results.
I shot them out of my SKS and AK
Here is a pic of my best group. I flipped the target over and marked a black dot in the center cause at 100 yards I couldnt see my bullet holes in the black and it was getting frustrating cause i didnt think I was even hitting paper. Here is a picture of the SKS group at 100 yards. this was my best grouping.

the lighter is about 3 inches long. so my grouping was about 4.5 "
im using this mold: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=752956
Alloy was water quenched clip on wheel weights. I sized them down to .311, gas checked them, and lubed them with LEE liquid alox. They were loaded with Reloader-7 and standard large rifle CCI primers. I tried 18,19,20, and 21 grains of powder.
20 grains proved to give the best grouping with both rifles, this picture above is with the SKS at 20 grains. The AK grouped a little larger at about maybe 5-6" or so. Id like to add, I wouldnt consider myself the best shot, with PMC I was grouping maybe 3-4" so it isnt that much different then the factory loaded ammo. These were also not the best of the batch of cast bullets. I sorted and saved the best 20 to load for my .308 (which did HORRIBLE with this cast bullet), these ones had more imperfections like cast lines and some were a little oblong before I sized them.
cleaning the rifles also was not that bad at all, it was almost the same as cleaning with jacketed rounds. I maybe used a couple extra patches
Just thought id share cause I know some people have showed interest in casting for this round. This brings my 7.62x39 costs down to $3/20, or $15/100
let me know if you want any further detail.
