Stuck .308 case How to remove

So I have a stuck case, ripped the band of the cartridge. The primer is out so I tried tapping the hole and using a bolt, washer and spacer to force the case out. It worked once, but now I have another and its not budging.

The die and shell are in the freezer while I come up with another idea.

And I know Lee charges $4 to remove the shell.

Ideas?

try some penetrating lube done the hole you drilled.. let it soak and try again?

what kind of press do you have


since you say you have a lee the decapper rod should still be in there so you take the locking screw out completely take off the die's aluminum nut

insert die in your press upside down (from the bottom) and with a metal plate over your shellholder press the rod be careful not to let the rod shift or it may break the decapper

Did you strip the threads?
If so you will have to tap a bigger hole. If possible, use a finer/tighter thread if there's room. If not, drill a hole through the sides of the shell and see if you can get some leverage. If you screw it up too much, you might have to try and tear that shell out.

If that fails, then send it in. Make sure you get your $4 worth

Have you tried a punch - about 9/32 diameter down through the case mouth?
Did you use the maximum size tap? about 5/16-24?
while this is probably not helpful to you without a lathe, I bored a really stuck case out using a regular boring tool -- not carbide. It did not scratch or mar the die - just skidded over the hard die surface.

I used

the Lanolin and alcohol from Dillion. Perhaps not enough lube down the inside of the neck.

The jig I made looks like the midway product but I am using copper pipe as the standoff. It seems soft. I need to find a piece of galvanised or other harder metal. I am glad I seem to be on the right track

I used this setup when I got a case stuck. Just add more washers if you need more lift.

Instead of a copper pipe for a standoff try a deep socket.

Thats what I did

I up sized my die and used a socket and it worked fine. I designed the whole mess in my head prior to these posts. Wow!
