'Burning' brass / No-wind zero verification

Don't you hate it when you have to shoot the leftover rounds out of a batch of ammo so you can reload the brass?

After shooting two EICs, I had ten rounds left of my 600 yard ammo (in the batch of 50). Since I needed to reconfirm my 200 yard no-wind zero, I used these ten rounds to do the live fire verification of my no-wind zero. I had left the long line at the All Navy EIC with 16 clicks (or 4 MOA).

When I was at the range yesterday, I took my cleaned rifle and dialed it back down to my 200 yard/meter 6 o'clock hold elevation zero and took of the 16 clicks of windage I had put on in the prior match.

Slung up in prone and fired off the 10 rounds on a standard NRA 200 yard SR target:

If I'm going to burn brass, that's the way I want to do it. By shooting a decent group. Incidentally, the high three shots in the group were the 1st three shots. Not sure if it shot that way because the barrel settled in for that string of fire or if it's because the lighting changed.

    FYI, that load is:

    80gr Sierra Match King
    24.0gr RL15
Lapua Match (Virgin) brass - no prep work whatsoever, straight from the box
    CCI BR4
~2750fps out of a 1 in 7" White Oak SR barrel

Now if I can only get my 200 yard standing groups to look like that...

If you have to burn off rounds to reload the brass, that means you don't have enough.

It's nice having LEO buds and co-workers with LEO husbands.

100-10X, Sweet! And single loading to boot. I can't rebuild my position consistently enough to do that.

Yeah, I'd be hanging that target up over the reloading bench in the garage. Nice.
