    Identify this 223 plastic bullet

And where can I get more of these.

When Jackson Arms was some other shooting range in South San Francisco, they used to have these bullets to allow you to shoot 223 in their indoor range. The round looks like 50% black plastic/polymer tip and a copper base. There's powder in the case and it's a regular brass casing.

The headstamp says "HP .223 5,56"
EDIT: It's a Hirtenberger Patronen manufacture, but the question is where can I get some more of this strange bullet?

    Any ideas?

    Taken from Janes:
Frangible short-range ball: 1.8g bullet (that's 28grains) consists of approximately 80% copper and 20% plastic; MV 1,050 m/s; maximum range 750 m; effective range 180 m; specially designed to function in automatic weapons up to 600 rds/min; also available with primers free of heavy metal (lead, antimony, barium)

Sounds like the lead-free primers is what made it attractive for indoor use. No longer imported to US. Made a lot of NATO ammo, mostly pistol. Red tips were tracer ammo. Black tips were trainers.

      Thanks, killshot44.

Too bad. I would have liked to get more of this stuff for shooting indoors.

Funny... never saw those there. I was able to shoot my AR at Jackson with my standard Federal .223/5.56 ammo. Was this recent?

They had these before Jackson Arms was "Jackson Arms." What was their name? "Top Gun" or something. I think they were using it because their backstop wasn't fortified to handle high velocity rounds.

I don't know if I can even get my hands on a bullet like that. A "28 grain", plastic tip/copper sabot bullet? How much and what type of powder would I use? I'd have to work up a load for that one. Maybe a wooden bullet?

Even if one could obtain projos, no load data is around for them.

There are other brands of frangible ammo out there.

Ah yes, I remember those days. That was before I was into rifles. ;~)
