Which Primer?

Hi, I'm learning to reload .308 Winchester, but not sure what size primer to use. I'm looking at CCI primers, do I use small rifle primer? I have a reloading book but didn't see anything on specific primer size.

Large-Rifle primer for 308-Winchester

If you're making match loads for accuracy, use either BR2 CCI Benchrest Large Rifle Primers or if you can find them, 210M Federal Large Rifle Match Primers.

If you're making loads for a military rifle like a M1A make sure you get the harder variety that CCI makes. They're important to avoid slamfires.

Unless you're using Remington BR brass (unlikely), you won't get very far trying to put small rifle primers in .308 brass.

Winchester LR primers are pretty slamfire resistant as well.

They're important to cci because they charge more for them. As poster above said, clean the primer pockets and check seated primer depth. Use standard large rifle primers. Your reloading recipes should state make of primer, make/weight of bullet, and make/weight of powder. If not, you need another recipe book. Have fun

One more agreement. After loading my Grendel and Beowulf with regular primers (while loading my .308 with CCI#34) I really haven't found any difference - so far no slam fires either way.

I've had very good results (.25moa) with CCI #250 (magnum) primers pushing 45.8gr H-414.

I was going to try out some 210Ms, but couldn't find any at my local shop. Tried out Varget and BR-2s, but 414's much easier to deal with so I'm going to stick with it.
