    hi,

I'm new here, and just wondering if this is standard practice that the seller is requiring me to send a copy of my drivers lic. with payment ?

    thanks

When I ship ammo I asked the buyer to send me a copy of their CDL (show proof of age). I included a copy of their CDL with the package.

For ammo sales, Not too many bother. ID is not required for ammo sales in Ca. yet. Only for firearms.
But some people are just scared rabbits.

            1. has been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year imprisonment,

            2. is a fugitive from justice,

            3. unlawfully uses or is addicted to any controlled substance,

            4. has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to a mental institution,

            5. is an alien illegally in the United States or an alien admitted under a nonimmigrant visa,

            6. has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions,

            7. has renounced his U. S. citizenship,

            8. is subject a court order restraining him from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or such partner's child, or

            9. has been convicted of a domestic violence crime.
These are all reasons a person cannot buy or possess ammunition. Are we going to run a rap sheet on every Joe who wants to BUY our ammo we are SELLING?

According to BATF, a licensee may sell interchangeable ammunition such as a . 22 cal. rimfire to a person less than age 21 (but age 18 or older) if the dealer is satisfied that the ammunition is for use in a rifle.
Federal law does not require a person dealing solely in ammunition to be licensed. But it requires ammunition manufacturers and importers to be licensed (18 USC 922(a)(1)(B)).
NOPE. No requirements for individuals to be nosey into buyers affairs.

            And last....
person may sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person:

            (1) Is under indictment for, or has been convicted in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding 1 year,

            (2) Is a fugitive from justice,

            (3) Is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 802),

            (4) Has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to a mental institution,

            (5) Being an alien—

            (i) Is illegally or unlawfully in the United States; or

(ii) Except as provided in paragraph (f) of this section, is a nonimmigrant alien: Provided, That the provisions of this paragraph (d)(5)(ii) do not apply to any nonimmigrant alien if that alien is-
NOPE. Not a single instance of a PERSON selling to a MINOR. Unless they look high...

On second thought, maybe we are Californians as a whole are not ready to join the rest of the Union in LAWFUL "cash and carry" transfer of firearms if we are skeered of selling just the freekin' ammo. What's next? Asking for ID to buy BB's and pellets?

Did they say "you'll shoot your eye out?" lol

When hardware stores carried anything gun related, it was a different time. Sadly almost a different country too.

But is the seller a SHOP or Cal-Guns individual? There is no requirement for INDIVIDUALS to ID a buyer of ammo.

The OP specifically says he's "purchasing ammo on calguns". I don't think Calguns is a licensee or shop. If he means CG Member- NO there is no requirement for ID. If he is buying form a CG Vendor (someone else's site) then YES, they can ask for ID.

OP's question answered. Anyone have a cite for a LAWFUL reason an individual NEEDS to ID a buyer?

Your right. That is CA law. I posted Federal.

So in my little head I'm think "interstate" transaction in my search. Nevermind the glaring fact OP disticts Cal Guns.

But I still would sell without checking ID. I'm just a bad person I guess...

Is .223 / 5.56 mm prohibited in Los Angeles, CA? I went to cheaperthandirt.com to check out some prices and it said that these type of ammo cannot be shipped to LA.
