    DIY stock making

Does anyone here have any good links to stock making tutorials and, more importantly, links to sources for wood. I want to do some laminate stocks and am not sure if it would be easier to glue the laminate myself or buy pre-done plywood.

There's a book called "Professional Stockmaking" that's pretty good. It covers layout and shaping, but the inletting portion only shows how to finish a semi inletted blank. It's out of print, but I got my copy on eBay. eBay also has a lot of stock blanks, but be careful not to buy something too wet if your going to be attacking it in less than a year or so.

I've had the best luck at local exotic wood suppliers. There are a couple in San Jose and they can get what you're looking for even if they don't have it on hand. Buy a nice piece of straight grained walnut for your first. It's easy to carve and not too expensive if you F-up.

One of the smaller stock maker sites used to sell blanks of prelaminated wood for stocks but I can't seem to find them now.

        I will keep looking.
