But can it differentiate 9mm from 9x18 or .380? I have no problem sorting different calibers but it looks like you would still have to go through each pile of brass to pick out these subtle case size differences so I don't really see the use.

you are correct, From their website

      Q. Can the sorter separate .380 cases from 9MM? Can the sorter separate the 40 Cal from the 38 Cal/357 Magnums?
      A. The compact size of the Model 1 limits the number of sorting slots so the standard tray will combine similar sizes into one bin. However, the tray is designed to be easily changed and we will be producing several optional trays for further sorting. We are currently testing a tray that will remove all cases smaller than the 9MM. We are also working on the design of a tray to separate the 40s from the 38/357s.

      Q. Are there any other sorting issues?
      A. A large problem with the typical mixture of pistol cases is the small differences from one caliber to the next creates a tight nesting of cases. 9MM cases fit almost perfectly in 40SW. 40SW are an almost perfect fit in a 45ACP case. 22 rimfire are small and light and fit into almost everything. The vibration action of the sorter will dislodge many of these, but not all.

We had something similar to this to sort range brass at the indoor range I worked at back in the 90's... sucker was god awful loud but worked pretty good.

Why not just get one of these? I have a set and think they are cool enough to carry in the store. It's about 1/10 the price.

would be useless for me since i shoot 38 and 40.
Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel , "Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land."

Nearly 75 years ago (when Welfare was introduced) the democrat party said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land."

Now obama and the dems have stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels,
            and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Yeah, alot cheaper... and from watching their video, seems just as fast. Just a little manual labor involved.

Had a set of the shell sorters for a couple of years now. Worth ever penny! Be nice if they could do one for 223/308 rifle!

                      Hi,

I am the designer of the sorter and saw the referrals coming from this forum. Thank you all for looking at the website and video.

But can it differentiate 9mm from 9x18 or .380?
                      i shoot 38 and 40
The unit was designed for the non-commercial reloader so size was a concern for both shipping and storage. The length of the tray limits the amount of sorting in a single pass. I am developing additional trays that can be changed easily for a secondary sort. The 380/9MM tray should be ready very soon. The 40/38 tray comes next.

Be nice if they could do one for 223/308 rifle!
A tray to sort 223 from 308 should be very easy. I can make a tray for most assortments of different diameter cases. Send me an email.

A comparison to the Shell Sorter is expected. While I think it's a great product for the price, it could get quite tedious if you sort gallons of brass per sitting. The Ultimate Sorter was designed to do the bulk of the sorting fairly quickly and easily.

I would like to offer Calguns forum members a $20.00 discount if they would like to purchase a unit. Use coupon code CALG9 at checkout.

Thanks again for looking. I appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

                      Jeff
