    You sure they're LP's?

I didn't think they would fit in a SP pocket...

I know what you mean. The other day the batteries in my TV remote went dead. I usually use AA but I didn't have any more so I put some D's in it.

Early 357 brass had large primer pockets. Maybe the OP has 1930's vintage brass?

I used winchester lpp for magnums. I loaded them in a 357mag casing. They seem to fit properly. I had no problems seating them. I loaded them for my gp 100 6in. I'm going to need more info before I drop the hammer. You viewpoints are gratefully appreciated.

I think what everyone is saying is how could that be?

Pistol primers side by side: 44 magnum (large pistol primer) and 357 magnum (small pistol primer)

                    Pistol primer parameters

There are a few basic parameters that you need to evaluate when buying primers:
                    1. Primer size (large, small)
Some cartridges require a large pistol primer (45acp, 44 special, 44 magnum, …) while others require a small pistol primer (9mm, 38 special, 357 magnum, …). Depending on what cartridge you are reloading, you need to buy the proper size primer for that application.

According to SAAMI, the depths for small pistol, small rifle, and large pistol primer pockets are .118" to .122", while large rifle primer pocket depths are .128" to .132". Small pistol and small rifle primers have the same diameter (.175") while large rifle and large pistol primers are also the same (.210").

Also, Speer recommends primers be seated .003" to .005" below flush.

I want to know what size hammer you needed to fit a LPP in a SPP primer pocket.

Unless they are vintage brass as a previous OP suggested
                          It is impossible

I run across small pistol primer .45 brass and usually toss it
One case made it over to my progressive

All that was left of the large primer was a glob of metal and anvil crammed up into the primer
pocket. It got jammed in sideways. Looked like a piece of popcorn. CCI's are white inside

So I cannot believe that it would be possible to put a large pistol primer into a small primer pocket

You would have better luck putting the "D" batteries in the remote

Did you mix up standard small pistol primers with magnum small pistol primers? In CCI primers that would be 500 v/s 550 primers.
