Lefties

So I really dig shooting my AR, and am seriously considering picking up one of the LH Stag uppers. In the meantime, what's a good method to avoid getting shmacked by ejected cases? I've figured out what I consider to be a comfortable position for shooting both offhand and bench, and I don't get hit by every case, but those odd few that hit me in the neck or right side of my face I can do without. I've considered wearing a bandanna over my face or a turtleneck shirt Bazooka-Joe style, but that seems a little much for range shooting, and may actually alarm other shooters. Any suggestions appreciated.

Cant say cause I've never had a problem with it with any AR I've ever shot, or any other gun for that matter. Aside from the need for an ambi safety here or there I think being a lefty is an advantage cause you can see much more easily into the action to diagnose and clear malfs etc.

My right handed upper has the shell deflector built in and has never dropped an empty case on me but I prefer my left handed Stag.

I'm a Lefty and have been shooing OLL's and such in competition for almost 2 yrs now and have no problems with right handed uppers....no fired cases even come close to my face or neck....

Lefty and no problems shooting AR15, HK rifles, FALs, MIAs, Mini14/30 etc. left handed. Only problem is when shooting bolt action rifle without a pistol grip type of stock, the bolt will hit top of my thumb when cycling.

Lefty here cycling bolt guns the only issue here. I have a lefty stag as well just dont really see that much of a difference.

I shoot all of my AR style rifles left handed. One has no brass deflector, so I use a brass catcher that velcros around the handguard - works great. Without it, they catch my ear muff damn near every shot. All of the ones with brass deflectors - no problem without the catcher. I also shoot the Mini-14 left handed without any problem, but use a brass catcher to keep the brass within 40 yards.

I'm a lefty too, and have both Stag lefties and Bushmaster and White Oak righties. I shoot them all lefty. Shooting at an outdoor range, I've never gotten hit by my brass regardless of the upper I'm shooting. Sounds to me like you're shooting at an indoor range and are getting hit by the brass bouncing back off the lane divider walls. That happens to me at indoor ranges too, regardless of whether I'm shooting one of my Stags or one of my right handed uppers. FWIW, just wear long sleeves to keep 'em off your arms and keep your shirt buttoned up to keep the hot brass from going down it, and you should be fine. Unless you get one that sticks to you , it shouldn't be a problem. If you're focused enough on the target, you won't even notice when you get bonked by your brass.

The only time I ever heard of a lefty getting smacked in the face was with an A1 upper w/o brass deflector. The only issue with shooting a lefty with an AR is that if a case rupture arises you will get hit pretty hard in the face when all the fragments start flying. It happen to a friend of mine a few years back. If he wasn't wearing safety glasses he'd probably be blind in one eye. If he was shooting right shoulder the fragging would have been minimal to his face.

Back when I was a Boy Scout...we went to pendelton to shoot "m-16s" They were set up without select fire

I distinct remember the first year we went getting hot brass down my shirt, smacked in the face, etc. I bitched about it and the RO basically told me to grow some
The next year either deflectors had been installed, or I wasn't such a wuss...

Now that you mention it, it's entirely possible that the cases are bouncing off the walls, as I've only shot the AR15 at indoor ranges. So I guess until I get around to an outdoor range, I'll just have to button up the collar or wear a turtelneck or something.
