Anyone try e3 in a pistol load?

I was walking down the powder aisle at the local sportsman's warehouse and saw a powder I hadn't seen before. It's called e3 by alliant and it's their new shotgun powder. There was only one bottle there and it was only 17 bucks for a pound so I figured I'd give it a shot only to come home and realize that I can't find any published load data for it. I was hoping for a cheaper alternative to something like clays, but I have no idea where to find any info on it.

Anyone give it a try in .40 or .45 acp?

e3 is a powder for shotguns only, since there is no information for straight walled pistol cartridges that I can find.

Most shotgun powders make good pistol powders, but like Chief said, no data.
If you work up a load post it.

Try and find it a relative burn rate chart. Then check the starting loads for powders in the same burning speed range for starting information.

I figured red dot would be pretty similar so I'm going to try that out.

I don't even have e3 on my burn rate chart. Where about does it sit?

I figure 4.7 is a good place to start under a 230 gr pill. Any thoughts?

#14 on this chart, right under red-dot
4.4g is a starting load on the Alliant site *for Red-Dot*
                    Please be careful

                    It's listed as a 12-gauge powder

Geez, it keeps popping up in different places on the powder burn charts. On the Hodgdon website it lists it between accurate nitro 100 and titewad. I guess that just means that the burn rates are all really similar. I am trying to be careful here. I think i'm going to try and drop the powder charge another 10% or so and see what happens.

I don't think I've seen two charts exactly the same.

                        Here's Alliant's site...

                              x2

is the powder at least flakely like pistol powder? in some of the loads, when you compare e3 to Unique under 12ga... E3 seems to be around 25-28% more powerful in producing psi with respect to the amount of gr in the max load. this doesn't meaning anything becuz we might be comparing apples with oranges... but if you were gonna start testing it out on pistols.. then you may want to start with a load lower than what is suggested for Unique.
