    7mm confederate sabre?

Alright, trying to build a martini that WAS .303.

Now i hear 7mm CS is made by running your .303 brass through a 7x57/7x57 AI size die...although the 303 is smaller ??? confusing...

Any info on this? I can't seem to find any. Hell if there's no data just give me some good ideas for a rimmed 7mm cartridge (not 7x57R too much$).

Just like it says, run the 303 case through a 7x57 die and you get a case that has the body, shoulder and neck of the 7x57 and the rim of the 303 Brit. The extractor, etc fits the 303 rim and you just screw on a 7CS barrel.

      It's that simple?

I read about using a 7x57 reamer too...can't be right.

        7mm Confederate Sabre - revisited

Does this thread have any life left?

to the last post, no the reamer is turned down so the base is .454 so the smaller .303 will fit tightly to minimize stretching.

A while back I started to build a 6.5x53R Dutch and the reforming steps were first 303 into 7x57 dies, then into the 6.5 dies. (the 6.5 dies were EXPENSIVE btw). I noticed that the intermediate step looked like a viable cartridge although I had no need for it at that time. The original 6.5x53R project got sold off, incomplete.

But now, I recently acquired a Enfield No. 4 Mk 1 in .303 British and got it all set up then began reading about the big chamber issues for case stretching etc. Even a 306 CS requires fooling with dies but the 7mm CS does not. Since I already have the 7x57 dies from that old project, this looks like the easiest way to get new life into a 303 and get around it's 'issues'.

The reamer builder was: Dave Manson of http://www.mansonreamers.com/ . Perhaps the reamers are rent-able nowadays.

I may look into this a bit more.
