So last week I picked up my new Remington 700 in .300 Win Mag and took it out to zero it. I fired about 30 factory rounds but the last few got stuck in the chamber after firing. I could turn the bolt and unlock it but couldn't pull the bolt open. I ended up tapping on it with a rubber mallet and after it moved back about a half an inch it would open smoothly. I took the gun back to the store and asked them to check it out. The gunsmith fired it and came back and told me that the chamber is too small, apparently it's the third Remington 700 they've had to send back for the same problem. The shop is replacing it with a different rifle so I don't have to wait on it to come back from Remington. Since I wasn't sure what the problem was at first, I took the fired cases, neck sized them, and reloaded them. It was when I tried to cycle some of the reloads in the gun that I realized something was really wrong since I couldn't get the bolt to close, it stopped about a half an inch out of battery. My question is, is it safe to fire those reloads in the new rifle, even though they are fire-formed to the first rifle? The cases have some light scratches about a half inch from the base, but they aren't damaged and the scratches don't look any worse than some I've seen come out of my semi-auto guns. Are there any problems with using the reloads I already made, provided they cycle smoothly in the new rifle? I don't have a full length sizer for .300 Win Mag so I can't pull them and resize the whole case.

Being that you are shooting with a different rifle, I would get a full length sizer.. especially in this case. If you are getting back your first Rem 700, then I would wait till it comes back and then just neck size the cases you have already. Even though you can have two of the same rifles, every gun is like a finger print... each has a slightly different chamber. In the thousandths, but different none the less.Eat what you kill... unless it's a zombie.

I was waiting for it! I've been happy with my other Remington rifles but when I took this one back the guy at the shop said it's the third one they've had to send back for the same problem. What's the deal with Remington these days?Comment

I guess I'll save some frustration and get a Savage 111 :POriginally posted by Daytripper63"Looking a bit angry, he asked why I thought it was a Republican truck. I explained that if it were an Obama truck, the seats would blow smoke up your *** year-round. I had to walk back to the dealership. The guy had no sense of humor."Comment
