    wolf performance 7.62x39

I took my "new" sks out to the range today with some wolf ammo, as mentioned performance 7.62x39. Within 20 rounds it was putting out smoke or vapor from my receiver. Shot other ammo from other manufacturers, no smoke. Went back to my wolf, smoke.

I read good things about 7.62x39 wolf, both military and high performance rounds. But I am surprised about the smoke or vapor or whatever. Two other SKS shooters ran my wolf through their guns and the same thing happened to them. Is this usual for wolf? I was just happy my rangemaster didn't pull me off the line.

My guess is you just ran into a lot of powder that burned dirty or slower maybe. Was the gun dirtier than normal when cleaning? Try a box or 2 of a different lot and see if that's the case. I have shot all wolf ammo thru my SKS and have not had that problem.

No, all 3 guns were "New" big 5 specials scrubbed down. Just the wolf did this. So normally wolf is OK? I read good things about the wolf military and high performance in this caliber. the brown and silver bear did great.

This was very very weird is all I can say. Maybe just a bad batch.

Maybe its the older stuff with the lacquer coating that was burning off? ...through an SKS I wouldn't worry one bit about running wolf. Many many many folks have fired tens of thousands of rounds of wolf without any issues. Not amazing accuracy, but you can hit a coyote and shoot enough to know your trigger pull.

Keep shooting, wear your eyes and ears, and have fun!
