I had a Semi Auto 308 which I sold for a Rem 700. I was sizing 308 with a full length die, but I understand I don't need to do that anymore. Should I keep my dies or should I get a neck size dies?

Resizing case question for a bolt action rifle
A golf course is a terrible waste of a perfectly good rifle range. -Lt. Col. Dave GrossmanTags: None -
I think you will find that if you take a fired case and try to rechamber it, it will go in just fine. There is no reason to full length size brass that was fired from your gun. Neck size to get uniform neck tension on the bullet and load 'em up.
If you are using brass that was fired from another gun, then full length resize the first time.Anyone press will hear the fat lady sing.

definitely keep your full length die set, and invest in a neck die.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

I am in a different camp. I FL resize everything always. However I am not a comp target shooter. I informal target shoot/plink and hunt. I especially want all my hunting amoo to be reliable and feed smoothly etc. Actually for big game hunting I only use new brass. The cost of brass is small compared to the hunt. Same with using quality bullets.
This is not to say my ammo does not shoot/group well. My rifles/pistols turn in some very small groups at the range. My varmit rifles are also geadly accurate on small game. Yes my brass may last acouple of reloads less but I do not try to get 956 loads out of them anyway.
So I would not worry about it and if you want just FL resize them. You can back off the FL sizer die acouple of turns(more or LESS) and you will be just resizing the neck anyway. I suggest you try that before spending the money for another die.
My 2 CentsA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

For the hard core hunting guns I use FL sizing dies that I adjust for as close to a perfect fit for headspace as I can get. (Sized brass that fits within +0 to -.001 of chamber length). I use once fired brass for big game trips (anything bigger or more remote than deer or antelope) to insure that the brass is a perfect fit and not worn out or work hardened.Frank

I do the same thing with my match rifle ammo.
Full length size the body with a Redding bushing die that minimally sizes the neck.
I only size enough that I can close the bolt easily, no more.Randall Rausch
