    Hornady Die chipped thread

I just received my Hornady Custom Grade die set, but i realized that my expander die has a chipped thread. It is quite small, but it takes some force to get the lock ring go through that portion of the thread.

Is that considered a legit defect? Does Hornady has a good Customer Service?

Dang it fsx, when I first glanced your thread title I thought Ron Hornady (NASCAR driver) died.

Brand new, never been used? I'd return it.

In my limited dealings with Hornady, they have very good customer service. Call them and I bet it gets handled.
Call them off hours and get the automated answering system for a little laugh! (Belay that - looks like they changed their announcement.)

I processed 200 rounds today with the "defected" die with no issues. I am wondering if I should just leave it as it is since the dies works as usual.

I would call and ask if they have a replacement in stock, it could take months to get the new one if not. They should let you keep the old one until the new one arrives though. If it's working fine, it may just be easier to take a small file to it to clean the bad spot off the threads so you can keep on making ammo.

I guess that i am just going to keep this die....
major disappointment from Hornady since I choose their die so I can be assured for quality...or not.

Dunno what's transpired here, but give Hornady a call. As i remember, they're on central time. They're customer service was absolutely excellent when i called last week. I wouldn't be surprised if they send you a new one free of charge. Obviously you're not lying, so there's gotta be a way where you could snap a pic of your defective die and email it to them or somethin.

Give'em a ring, it'll probably be worth your time.

Oh and.... they just sent me a full set of internals for my sizing die free of charge - obviously it was my fault....
