South African .308 packs

Just curious...Are these SA packs .308 brass reloadable? They look like they're box-primed, not Berdan-primed.

Anyone has tried reloading these? Thanks so much in advance

All of my military surplus South African ammo has been berdan primed, including the 7.62x51 that comes in 140 round packs. What is it about yours that "looks" boxer primed? Is there a single, centered flash hole?

Just double-checked...Yes, they're all berdan-primed. Sorry for the confusion.

So there's no way we can deprime and prime berban-primed brass...If there is, where do we find those berdan primers?

It is possible to reload berdan primed cases but it's not worth all the trouble, some convert the pocket by drilling down the anvil in the berdan cases but then the boxer primers are loose and not an exact fit...too much damn work but not impossible. Finding berdan primers might be harder to do!

I like the German, British, S. African and Austrian ammo sold at AIM Surplus; it's good and cheap [and] I don't reload so I don't worry about the priming. I load the Privi 168 OTM rounds for SD purposes in my home/car Panther Arms AP4, which shoots all of these rounds nice.

The other option, if you have access to a drill press, is to convert these shells to use 209 shotgun primers. These would be good for lighter loads, like what I prefer to shoot. Fortunately, used Boxer brass for 7.62x51 NATO remains plentiful (and currently cheap even on Gunbroker), and being LC brass, it should last a good, long time.

So, definitely have fun shooting that Berdan-primed ammo. But reload with LC.
