45 ACP Powder Recommendations

Hey there everybody. I am asking for recommendations about a new powder to use for my reloading. 12 years back when I was actively reloading I really liked W231 for my 45 powder and Unique for pretty much all the rest of my various loads. I am dusting off and lubing my old presses and I am going to start loading again soon. I have everything except the powder. Can you recommend an American made powder that it is relatively accessible in 1lb amounts that is very good with the 45 ACP? I was looking at AA No 5 and it looked like this might be it but I am seeing that it is apparently from a foreign maker. I would prefer to buy American for my reloading. Thanks in advance.

I use Clays but I believe it's made in Australia.

I had heard recently that W231 is near impossible to get your hands on. Is this not true?

W231 is tough to locate. Hodgdon's HP-38 is almost identical if not the same stuff. I just ordered 8lbs of HP-38 from Graf & Sons.

Bullseye is the standard for .45 ACP and I have used it for years. Last summer when Bullseye was hard to find I decided to give Titegroup a try. Titegroup is a nice shooting powder and not as dirty as Bullseye and meters well. Powder charges are about the same for either. The good thing about .45 ACP is practically every powder will work in it...I jest... but a lot of powders can be used.

Titegroup and Bullseye are what I use, and I like them both.

Ok, Here's the deal on load and drop-in barrel

Took my 1911 Colt Commander to the range today to break in the new ED Brown Drop-in barrelI really wanted to try more of my rounds( first time reload for 45 ) Well, you still need to take your 45 to the Smith to set that barrel. It's not really a drop-in. Close, but no banana. I used 5.0gr of 700X at 1.260 OAL. Well, the ones that weren't wrinkled did real fine Most all fed real good. I was shooting at 10 yards at a man sized target. I managed to shoot 100 rds creating big holes for eyes and shot a large hole in the center mass. So I would say the load as well as the ED Brown barrel were a success

Whatever I have on hand, usually Bullseye though. I've loaded 45's with Bullseye, Unique, Titegroup and Power Pistol. I prefer Bullseye or Titegroup though.

I usually go to Ammo bros in Ontario for all my reloading stuff.
