    VELOCITY AND PRESSURE CORRELATION...QUICKLOAD

so if i bump up the charge on quickload until my projected velocity equals my actual velocity, that should get me pretty close to my actual pressure- correct?
quickload should have a function that allows you to input distance from the lands to get a more accurate calulation of pressure and velocity....

It "should", based on what I've heard of quickload, but watch for anything weird, just the same. As long as you're below max loads to begin with, you're probably fine.

      No.
Assuming everything else is accounted for (bullet coating, shot start pressure is a factor concerning bullet proximity to the lands, temperature, case capacity and barrel length), your QL velocity should match your chronograph.
If you are tweaking your powder charge weight to get the velocity to match, something is wrong.

The key is using quickload to be able to properly estimate your actual measured velocities.
When you start doing that, you have it figured out.

I went back through old load data and played with the data sets and was able to very closely match the estimates to the actual measurements.

i rather look at pressure sign and work up then go by some fancy program. bit that's just me. I'll chrono last after I find my desire accuracy.

ahhh... that was it. now QL velocities are within 10-15 fps of actual. because i'm not quite on the lands (0.005 off), i'm sure the shot-start correction is a tad off- but the results match much better now. i'm going to measure case capacity tonite to see what kind of QL results i get. thanks!
