Ithaca Model 49 Help

I have an match pair of these 22 rifles for my sons but one of them doesn't eject the shells after they have been fired. I suspect the ejector spring needs to be replaced. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do. I took it to a gun smith and he tried to sell me another rifle because he said it would cost more to fix the gun than it's worth...
