If you use an uncharged/unprimed case plus bullet while your adjusting your bullet seater die like I do, then you can use the bullet puller to salvage the bullet and case afterwards. Also, if you overshoot the desired setting and seat the bullet a bit too deep, you can disassemble the round, back out the seat depth adjustment a bit, and try again until you get it just right.

        Phil,

You may not need a bullet puller. But us humans make mistakes and it's good to be able to correct them.

The bullet puller might be the first reloading tool I buy. I ordered some 8mm surplus ammo that are duds and I heard I can re use the bullets to reload, (not the powder) so I might get the puller to dissemble those so I can recycle the brass. Just saying there are many situations that you may need it.

I don't no what I'll do with the powder. Maybe custom fireworks?

Hah! Buy one, and while you're at it, order a squib rod too.

Yes, you need one..........crap happens. You may find you seated a bullet too deep or loaded the wrong powder charge....ect......many posibilities!

Yup, a must have tool, no doubt. Take our word for it.

A bullet puller is an essential piece of SAFETY equipment. If you don't have one, you will be proportionally more inclined to err on the side of "it should be fine", and you'll be right usually... but the one time that you're not.... *BOOM*

If you have one handy, you're more likely to just pull down the questionable rounds.

occasionally a primer goes in upside down and i use the kinetic to retrieve my components

but it takes alot of screwups to pay for its $15 price tag

7 cent bullet 3 cent primer 2 cent case forget the pinch of poweder

but to me its just the principal

It's not the 10-20 cents (or whatever) of components per round that I can salvage that makes the bullet puller an essential tool, it is the fact that if I have a known unsafe round (improperly set primer, for example), I am able to disassemble it. It also allows me to go back and "spot check" a lot of ammunition that may have become separated from it's load information tag (although there will be some powder loss, it gives me an approximate amount, and I generally only reload a few different recipes for each caliber - and only use one powder type for handgun rounds).

After reloading thousands of rounds, the bullet puller has yet to pay for itself ($20) in salvaged components, but it has paid for itself many times over by allowing me to disassemble and dispose of unsafe rounds without accident or injury.

You need one so that you don't have to ask some poor shmuck to borrow his. I just got my CH4D .510 collet puller back from Impactco today. He used it to pull 7 bullets and liked it so much that he already ordered his own! He knows that the $125 is a wise investment! So, your getting a $15-$20 puller is a must!

I got the message. I ordered a Hornandy Cam-Lock puller and collet, along with some other stuff. Was not trying to be cheap, just wanted to understand the need.

                              Thanks.

Get the puller, you don't want to end up with a pile of "rejects" do you?
