    Walnut media size question

The crushed walnut media at the local feed store is in a 50 lb bag for $16.00 but it looks medium-course grind. The crushed walnut at the local pet store is $12.00 for a small bag, I think 5 lbs, and is fine-medium grind. Am I correct in saying the finer grind media will produce a better shine, or does it even matter?

For me it is not so much a matter of a better shine as it is how the stuff flows. The coarser the grit the more it tends to get impacted in the cases. Then finer the stuff is the better it flows in and around the cases, if the stuff cannot flow in and out of the cases, it cannot do it's job now can it?

Being a novice, I used some coarse corn cob with 223 cases. Bad. Very bad. It is incredible how much of this stuff can cram itself inside the case, and NOT come out without a LOT of finessing. It was like trying to solve a puzzle inside a dark hole with a dental pick. I honestly thought I was going to have to throw some cases away, permanently filled with corn cob. Whatever coarseness you get, in anything, just make sure it can "flow" out of the case.

I use walnut with grit rating of 12/20. I buy it from a place that sells blasting equipment as well as different types of media. I think price was something like $30 for 50 or 80 pound bag, not certain on price or bag size.
