    Leading in barrel solution

So I have been shooting reloads for quite some time now and always have a little bit of lead in my barrels. I tried Chore boy copper scouring pads which worked pretty well but really didn't get those rifling grooves clean.

So I tried something new I looked up online today. It is a 50/50 mixture of plain white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide.

    My method.

1.Plugged the muzzle end of the barrel with a rubber plug I picked up from Home Depot.
    2. Clamped the barrel to the edge of a 5 gallon bucket with the muzzle of the barrel inside the bucket.
3.Used a dropper that I picked up to fill the barrel with my cleaning solution.
    4. Let soak for less than 3 minutes. The solution will bubble and do not let this solution get on blueing or paint, it can ruin it.
    5. After less than 3 minute soak I drained the solution over the sink and then scrubbed the barrel 2 full strokes with a bronze brush.
    6. Pushed dry patches through until they came clean. Then ran an oiled patch to finish it up.
    7. Barrel looks better than any other cleaning job I have ever done.

Do not let this solution sit more than three minutes. Do not use this solution on barrels made with mild steel. I used it on a stainless revolver barrel and a XD 45 ACP barrel, no issues at all with either of them.

Or you can use a Lewis lead remover kit and have no chemical weirdness worries.

I double the 3 minute thing. I ruined a Sig P220 Barrel after 7 minutes. Personally I use shooters choice with a rifle bronze brush with that long curly steel wool stuff that you wrap around it, and then follow up with patches of paper towels that I push through with a wooden dowel. It gets over 95% of the lead out with the first pass of the paper towel patch.

Using correct bullet alloy, correct bullet lube, and correct bullet size will eliminate leading without having to resort to steel eating chemicals.

Usually when I see leading, it's from using too hard a cast bullet. What kind of alloy are you using, and for what pressure load?

Pushing them to fast will cause leading.

You didn't do that, because if you did, you would not have leading.

Thank you pal. I didn't come over here for a lesson in reloading, just wanted to share something that has worked for me.

Fire a few FMJ's at the end of your shooting session, and your all set.

+! I have run well over 1500 rounds of my hardcasts through one of my Kimbers without cleaning anything. I really think that my choice in lube (Jake's red) along with my load just works well together.

When it comes to lead, it doesn't do much for me. When it comes to copper fouling, I use my own blend of Aquios Ammonia and Ivory dish soap. I can smell Sweet's all day without any effects. My blend can literally KILL a human in an inclosed area. But, it works so much better on copper fouling.

This seems to help some but, it's not perfect.
