So I have been shooting reloads for quite some time now and always have a little bit of lead in my barrels. I tried Chore boy copper scouring pads which worked pretty well but really didn't get those rifling grooves clean.
So I tried something new I looked up online today. It is a 50/50 mixture of plain white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide.
My method.
1.Plugged the muzzle end of the barrel with a rubber plug I picked up from Home Depot.
2. Clamped the barrel to the edge of a 5 gallon bucket with the muzzle of the barrel inside the bucket.
3.Used a dropper that I picked up to fill the barrel with my cleaning solution.
4. Let soak for less than 3 minutes. The solution will bubble and do not let this solution get on blueing or paint, it can ruin it.
5. After less than 3 minute soak I drained the solution over the sink and then scrubbed the barrel 2 full strokes with a bronze brush.
6. Pushed dry patches through until they came clean. Then ran an oiled patch to finish it up.
7. Barrel looks better than any other cleaning job I have ever done.
Do not let this solution sit more than three minutes. Do not use this solution on barrels made with mild steel. I used it on a stainless revolver barrel and a XD 45 ACP barrel, no issues at all with either of them.
