    XD 45 ACP reloading

Okay so I searched around and could not find a straight answer, so here goes.

I am reloading for my XD 45 ACP Tactical. I am using 230grain Truncated cone lead bullets, wolf large pistol primers, 5.0 grains of Unique, and mixed brass.

Problem:I will on occasion have FTF due to the round flipping up out of the magazine during the cycle of expending spent brass and loading a new round will hang up at a 45 degree angle, almost like a stovepipe with out the round being expended but not sticking out of the ejection port.

I have used factory fodder in a round nose and it worked fine, no FTF. My question is what is a good cast bullet to shoot out of my pistol? My thoughts were along the lines of a 200 grain rounded flat nose bullet.

    Ideas?

    230 grn rn.

Polish the ramp a bit and adjust the OAL of the truncated cones and they might feed. Took me about 10 range trips to find a wad cutter load that was 100% reliable and accurate in my XD.

So what did you wind up using bullet wise? My OAL is about as far short as it will go.

Adjusting the oal will help greatly. Althou my xd is a 40, I had similar problems until I adjusted the correct oal and no issues since then. That was some 8k+ rds ago.

I'm using 180gr tc bullets and 155swc and it works great!

I ended up having to go longer to get my xd to eat the wad cutters.

So my OAL needs to be longer. I will try that on another batch of reloads after I pour some more bullets.

            Thanks for all the help!

It seems like you might be light on the powder. To get my 1911 to work i have to use at least 5.7 grains of unique with the 230 grain TC.

Yea, from my research I think you are right. OAL and powder charge need to change. The powder charge I am using is basically for a 185 grain bullet or a 160 grain. I am going to try all these tips and report back.

If you want to keep using that reload, you might consider a lighter recoil spring. It sounds like your slide might be "short stroking".

I have strong spring in my XD-45 Tactical. If I use light loads, mine does the same thing. I use 5.4 gr of 231, 5.6 is max. 1.230 OAL. Keep XD'n.BTW, this is the recipe that works in all my 45's.

Yep, sounds like that is going to be the solution seeing as I have another 1K in this load

I had the same problem with 200gr LSWC out of my XD45. Shortened the OAL to minimum and they worked flawlessly.

Update. I fixed my issue by increasing my powder charge to 5.6 grains of Unique and shortened my OAL. Now I have better accuracy and no more 'short stroking.' I treied this new round out last week and was so thrilled to see it finally work I forgot to pick up my brass!
