    Reloading the 6.8SPC

I've been on 68forums, but I don't like it much over there. Much prefer my CalGuns brethren. Anyways, I have a 6.8upper in the works, and am starting to stockpile reloading supplies for it. I'm looking for some good bullets that don't break the bank, and can be used for hunting(no fmj). I've looked at Hornady 100gr Spire Points, which will probably do fine for both hunting and plinking purposes, but I was just wondering what you other 6.8 shooters are using for hunting bullets?

The Rem 115g are decent for plinking. Not super accurate but the price is right if you look around.

    Here's an example.

I've achieved sub moa groups out of my build. Using 110 gr Sierra Pro Hunters over 29.4gr of H322, cci 41 or wolf .223 primer, SSA small primer brass trimmed to 1.670". This load gets about 2600 fps accurately and safely out of my 16" ARP barrel. 115 gr matchkings are also said to be very good. The new barnes 95 TTSX is supposed to be the best bullet out there for the 6.8, I have yet to try it.

If you are looking to get the most out of this cartridge, stay away from remington brass and bullets. Rem brass is made to use large rifle primers, which may yield higher velocities than the same charge with small rifle primers, but in my experience, large rifle primers may show false pressure signs. The case capacity is also less than the SSA brass. The shape of the 115 gr rem bullets call for them to be sat a bit shorter than other choices to avoid jamming the projectile into the rifling. This of course decreases case capacity, and may cause high pressure depending on the charge. They are ok for light plinking rounds.

the 68 forums have a lot of info, I wouldn't go anywhere else for info on the cartridge, Pay attention to Contructor's posts, he really knows his stuff. Just my 2 cents.

Except it's FMJ. I'd like to practice with what I hunt with.

Supertech. 68forums do have a lot of info, but I don't like the layout and search features. I guess I can give it more of a chance. And at about .40-.50 cents per bullet I don't blame you for not trying the 95g TTSX's. I'd like to use those bullets, but that puts loading cost near .75 cents per round. Not too bad if ALL I do is sight in and hunt with it though.
