    12 gauge buckshot reloading press

Hi, anyone among you guys doing shotgun reloading ? I am interested in what kind of press do you use? Mostly for buckshot home defense and competition. Any opinions are welcome. Also, for home defense do you guys use reloaded (own) ammunition? Like your own hollow point bullet. thanks for the information....

I use a Lee Load-All because it's inexpensive and does the job quite well for a single-stage loader. I also have a Mec 600Jr, but it has 16 gauge dies rather than 12, and new dies actually cost more than a new Lee Load-All.

I load buckshot and slugs with it.

Smaller gauge shotguns such as .410 and such will save you money. 12g you really don't save if yor loading bird shots but buck and slugs will save you a bunch!

Mif Slim nailed it. Not alot of savings for bird or target loads. Slugs and buck yes. However a good loader can make custom loads that will perform a bit better than factory loads. Don't forget also that you will not be held hostage by the market. If your local wallyworld is out of stock you will be unaffected. After the last couple of years of BS shortages I have enough supplies to load up a few thousands rounds if I need to. I still buy bird/target loads at Wallyworld but I don't have to

If you are loading small amounts, single stage press like a MEC 600jr is perfect for what you want.

I've loaded lots of 20ga and it takes a long time but works.

As for not a lot of saving on target loads, I'll disagree.

I can load 12ga target loads for < $4 compared to buying them for about $8.

And you can't compare them to the cheap promo Walmart stuff. It's like comparing XM193 to Fed GMM.

For loading Buckshot any single station press will work fine. For loading metallic cartridges if you are not loading thousands of rounds a basic single station set up is fine. Also the best way to learn. I suggest the RCBS Rock Chucker or the Hornady Lock and Load classic. Note the real savings on reloading are not loading common pistol rounds. The biggest savings are on hard to find ammo like 45 colt. 41 mag and large rifle cartridges. The advantages are being able to tailor a round that will perform better than factory ammo.

I use the Lee Load All in 12 gauge. I've loaded birdshots and buckshots. I purchased the loader used and have not had any problem with it. I would not compare it to RCBS, Dillon, or Mec but it does the job for low volume reloads.

Thanks guys! I have been loading pistol and rifle rounds. No problem with that, i have seen and realized the value of that. Now i am going to load buck shot . I have heard alot of good things with lee loader. Single stage, no problem with small amount etc. I am planning to get that. Now, do you guys use handloaded ammo when you carry or at home?

If you can find a source for cheap buckshot, please let me know. So far, the cheapest I can find is about $5/lb, making it about .42/shell for just the lead. I guess I could cast my own

Lee Load-All for my slug loads. Wal-Mart for birdshot. 12ga in all cases.
