    Local powder prices

How much are you guys (and ladies) paying for powder? I just set up to load 223 and need some powder.

I'm looking for a local place, near OC or Long Beach.

    Thanks

Don't even try to powder or primers at local shops. Unless your willing to bend over and grap your ankles.
Your best bet, is a group buy in your area. I am in the same boat as you. I'm over here in 90712.
Or the gunshow down in Orange.

If you are new to reloading the 223 caliber and dont know which powder to use, recommend the following: Varget and Ramshot TAC.
If you are in a hurry, expect to pay $25.00 for 1 lb of powder which is outrageous. The only advantage in buying local is to test the diff between powders: Velocity vs accuracy. Or just needing something now .

As T-bear stated, buy from a local GB.

Eh, talk to Dustin at Ammobros about components. His prices are usually competitive with online prices by the time S&H and hazmat are factored in, if you're buying a decent amount of stuff.

Just post a msg for powder/primer group buy from powdervalley... post out where you are... I bet there are people in ur local area that may be interested...

I thought I had seen a LA/OC powder group buy just recently...

I personally think, both Alliant's RL15, Ramshot TAC is good choice for 223... they works with various different gr of bullets... from 55gr all the way up to 77gr....

I've heard that some people like Varget.

Primer wise... I think CCI is good.... #41 is specifically made for 5.56/Military... and it is only like a dollar something(per 1k) more expensive than CCI's #400

            grammaton,
I gotta disagree with you on this one. Maybe if your buddy buddy with the guy. Ammobros are about 5min away from my house. been there a couple times last year/ And asked if I coule tag along with there order and flat out I got a no. What I wanted was 18lbs of various powder, I don't thing that is a small order. And there once fried brass is more like 2-3 times fired. I went through the whole bin of .308 and every single one was a reloaded case with either die marks or different primers.
I would love to give my business to them, but you gotta be honest to get my money.

Interesting. Now, were there a lot of 1lb containers, by some chance? I do know he doesn't seem to like ordering a lot of types of powder, but larger containers (i.e. 8lb jugs) seem to be different.

Ah, I've never looked at those bins. I just order projectiles (requires hassling), powder, and primers.

they do, but mid way charges 20 bucks hazmat fee + 9.99 shipping fees, and you cant attach it to your other order because "powder" is shipped shipped separately.

That I can understand. Midway drop ships their powder from a supplier, and charges a separate shipping charge + $20 hazmat fee, in addition to the rest of your order's shipping fee. If you want primers from Midway, that is drop shipped from a different supplier, and is another set of shipping and hazmat charges. It adds up really quick, not to mention that their shipping charges seem to be a little on the high side to start with.

I agree a group (actually more like a "combined") buy from someone like Powder Valley is the way to go. They can ship up to 48 lbs of powder and primers on one $20 hazmat fee. I just participated in a combined buy that had 5 buyers from Powder Valley. I had 2 lbs of powder and 3000 primers with a total of $97, $10.43 my share of shipping, insurance, and hazmat. Same order from Midway would be $159.66 because of their duplicated hazmat and shipping fees. That is $60.21 worth of shipping and hazmat for $99.00 worth of supplies. Like I said, it adds up fast. They are definietly off my list for powder and primers.
